Automatic Projection Roller Shutter

Roller Shutters are great products, very famous throughout Europe: they protect from the cold in the winter time, adding to the window, mainly during the night, the thermal insulation of their curtain. They bring also a complementary security  to your home, dissuading undesired visitors. In summer they are also very useful as they can stop the sun rays before they pass through the window panes.

The problem

But doing so the user cannot admire the great panorama he faces when on the sea-side, at the mountain or at home. It means that a the best moment of the year, when it’s very sunny outside, he needs to raise down the shutters to prevent the house from overheating. And it is also true that to be perfectly protected from the sun strong heat he’ll have also to keep his window closed behind the closed shutter. No more ventilation nor osmosis with the outer paradise!

But there is a solution to this problem: the projection option.

With this option

  • the shutter keeps stopping the sun rays before any overheating occurs
  • the homeowner can still admire the outside landscape or seaside
  • the window can stay open as the curtain heat is cooled by the air natural movement
  • the house ventilation stays possible

This is why projected shutters have been a”must” in all mediterranean countries for centuries.

But unfortunately, the projection option became incompatible with shutter motorisations, the most frequent option on shutters now days!…

 Why?…

Yes, why is the Projection option incompatible with the Motorisation option ?

The hinge angles in the curtain side-channels can bring to a rapid destruction of the slats when retracting the curtain

When doing it manually the user can always stop rolling-up the curtain, as he can see what’s going on. At the opposite, when the shutter is motorised – and now most of them are remote controlled, you can’t see it anymore, and a severe damage can occur.

For this reason, all manufacturers have prohibited when ordering a custom roller shutter, to combine motorisation and projection options.

And in a decade or so, the projection option has been almost abandoned. Not that the need does not exist any longer but because the current technology cannot answer it without risk.

But couldn’t we imagine a product that would allow both options?

Why not?

Yes, why not offer both options?

Why not reconsider the cinematic of a projection roller-shutter so that even if we operate it when projected, it moves smooth and clean?

The invention

This is how the concept of an Automatic Projection Roller-Shutter was born.

  • The first challenge has been to allow the shutter movement when it’s projected
  • The second challenge has been the design of an automatic “switching device” allowing  the change from the normal mode to the projection mode and vice-versa
  • The third challenge was to make possible the above change at the touch of a key, and with a single motor, for obvious cost reasons

The developement has conducted to this unique solution which allows, at the touch of a simple remote control, an extreme flexibility in the choice of the desired configuration .
